Weather is my enemy at the moment so I have moved forward with some other jobs that were not in my planner. However its been really satisfying having a mix of different types of job to get on with.
I removed the chrome headlamp adjuster rings and sprayed them satin black. I keyed them and used Hammersite satin.
I was thinking of having the grille black for a more modern feel and then being able to swap to silver. However I realised it would be a bitch to change grilles when the car is finished. To make sure I got good adhesion I used Wayside adhesion promoter.
then sprayed it with some Silver Stone acrylic that was meant to be for my mk1! Hey ho needs must.
I have spent ages thinking of options for the front indicators but in the end I settled on the kit supplied ones.
They are high and I'll be getting them lower than they are in these pictures.
The lights look much better with the black rings (hides all the adjuster gubbins)
I cannot tell you how pleased I am with the result of my idea of the 407 grille!
A job I'd been anxious of was the cowls. Put your mind at rest if you are about to do this. They are marked up pretty well at the factory making it a 20 min job for both sides.
I cut the majority off with a jigsaw with steel cutting blade in it.
Then I went and sharpened my Wusthoff kitchen scissors and simply trimmed from there.
I just need to fine sand the edges now.
Then I moved on to wiring the headlamp looms, I bought headlamps plugs/loom and sidelight looms/bulb holders from Minispares
Ive been using these metal crimps and I have to say they are great
Then shrink wrapped the joins. As a final measure for security I put insulation tape on. Over cautious? Maybe but who wants to be tracing elec faults later?
Not me
On to the boot hinges...... using tape to protect the body I measured up the position for my Mini hinges.
Then using the supplied gaskets I marked up the holes for drilling.
I think theyre really really cool.
What I didnt take a picture of was the holes, basically when you have drilled them you need to slightly elongate them north/south to ensure that when the boot is under weight (in the vertical plane) the studs dont bear all the weight and stress the grp. Again, perhaps Im being over cautious.
That's it for now folks......
