Depowering the Mk2 quick rack

The PAS will not be fitted to the kit and whereas some people just loop the PAS hoses I wanted to depower it properly for a more precise driving experience. There is a ring type plunger on the rack that if left in place just pushes old PAS fluid around and will give a potentially sloppy feel to the steering.

You need to remove both the tie rods completely and then AFTER you have done that remove the pinion. If you take the pinion out early then you will have big problems trying to undo the tie rods. In the picture above you can see the ring that needs to be carefully cut off with a grinder.

Below you see the ring removed and then regrease/oil everything and reassemble. There are a couple of good you tube videos but remember mk2 racks are slightly different to mk1 when it comes to dismantling. Also the mk2 is the quicker rack so much more suited in a sports/kitcar.
